 | | Alan Hawes Thames Rowing Club is very sad to report the death of Alan Hawes at the age of 82. He had been ill for some time.
Alan, a Vice President of the Club, had been a member for well over 50 years and had served as Captain, Chairman, Honorary Secretary (Rowing) and in numerous other offices, both formal and informal. Additionally, he had rendered countless other voluntary services to the Club ranging from coaching of successive generations of novice oarsmen to maintaining the club launch fleet; from certifying the clubhouse wiring to updating the honours boards. The hours which he committed to the club are beyond measure. Perhaps as important, Alan was one of those great characters so important to the life of any club, dispensing wit and wisdom from his favoured barstool as he sipped his half of bitter. He was an institution up and down the River Thames and will be grievously missed.
Our thoughts at this time are with Pat, Mark and Christine. We will post details of funeral arrangements when they are known.
