Glory and mud at Women's Henley

At a Henley Women's Regatta dominated by rain and mud, Thames took the Intermediate Eights event in unusual circumstances.

Thames had had a hard draw, progressing through tough contests against the University of the West of England, Edinburgh University and Rob Roy.  In the final, they were due to meet Osiris Boat Club A (Oxford University) in what promised to be an exciting race.  However, shortly after winning their semi-final, Osiris were disqualified after it came to light that the crew included an ineligible rower.

Sadly, this deprived the Thames crew of a race for which they were highly motivated.  Nevertheless, the crew raced down the course in glorious isolation for their row-over, setting the fastest time of the event and demonstrating that the right crew had clearly won.

The crew were: Chloe Squires (bow), Sarah Leys, Rebecca Harland, Valerie Keith, Kerry Moir, Leonora Kennedy, Francesca Sanjana, Alice Frankum (stroke) and Samantha Daniell (cox).

This was the fourth time in the last ten years that Thames had won this event (or its predecessor).
