Saturday marked the beginning of regatta season with Hammersmith Regatta, the traditional opener. Thames had six crews racing and came away with pots in three of them – a great start.

Jamie Palmer won his races comfortably to secure the overall win in tier 1 1x, and was followed up by the masters F 4x who beat a crew from Southampton to win their event by 1.25 lengths.

The novice women’s 8 made a great start to their summer, beating Vesta in a straight final of W8+ by 3.25 lengths.

The novice men’s 8 comfortably dispatched two Vesta crews in the heat and semi-final of M8+ before being beaten by just 1.5 lengths by a senior Vesta 8 in the final.

The novice women also entered two 4+s. In the tier 1 straight final Thames came up against a tidy and experienced Godolphin & Latymer boat and were not quite quick enough today – but made an encouraging start. In tier 2 4+ the women lost to a stronger Barnes Bridge Ladies crew, learning some useful lessons in the process to set themselves up for the next regatta.

Congratulations to all the crews who raced. Next weekend the juniors make their regatta debuts at Chiswick, while the seniors race at Wallingford in the first multi-lane competition of 2018.
