Wallingford Regatta kicks off 2026 summer season

Wallingford Regatta was, as usual, the first test of racing over 2k, and after a good preparation period, the club came away with five wins.

In the morning division, the men opened the Thames account with a good win in club 4+, crossing with clear water ahead of London and Marlow. In men’s challenge 8s, a thrilling race was won by Leander, with Marlow just edging the Thames men for second.

The afternoon session delivered four wins. In men’s club 8s, it was Thames’ turn to triumph over Marlow, while in women’s challenge 8s, a superb final was won by Thames A, just under two seconds ahead of Leander, with Thames B just in third.

In men’s challenge 4+, Thames won in front of London, while the women’s club 4+ cruised to a huge 12-second victory in their final.

There were also plenty of other encouraging performances throughout the day, including second place in women’s challenge 2- and men’s challenge 4-; third and fourth places in women’s challenge 4-; and third place in women’s challenge 4x.
